Motorcycle History

Boston Red Sox pitching ace Curt Schilling launched a special auction to raise funds in support of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Melanoma research and patient care.

Schilling was the first of his 2004 World Series Champion Red Sox teammates to autograph a 2005 Harley Davidson Fat Boy motorcycle.  The motorcycle has more than 40 signatures !  Such as , Jason Varitek, Tim Wakefield, David Ortiz, Kevin Youkilis, Terry Francona, Pedro Martinez, Kieth Foulke and  many more . The auction lasted 12 days, with all profits being divided equally between The ALS Association and Phoenix, Arizona’s Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGEN), of whose board Schilling is a member.

“ALS & Melanoma are two causes close to my heart.   I hope this Harley Davidson auction will generate funds that eventually eliminate these diseases.” Said Curt Schilling!

Over the past 13 years, Schilling has donated and helped raise over 5 million dollars for the ALS Association, which is also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.   The disease is a motor neuron disease with progressive muscular atrophy.   Once thought rare, it is now considered fairly common, striking both men and women, generally between the ages of 40 and 75.

Hill and Holliday “Won” Mr. Schilling’s Red Sox Harley-Davidson at auction before the Sox won the 2004 World Series.   That following spring of 2005 the motorcycle was then donated to Bridges Over Troubled Waters for a re-auction.   Based in Boston, Bridge Over Troubled Waters gives runaways and homeless youth, abused, abandoned and neglected youngsters a chance to make something of their lives.   With the full time staff of 40+ people, supported by over 200+ volunteers, bridge helps thousands of homeless, runaways find a place to get a hot meal, clothes and sometimes, just a warm shower.

This Red Sox Harley-Davidson has come to symbolize the generosity of the Boston Red Sox Community and will make a difference in the lives of thousands of adults and children with life altering diseases!

Phil and Jen , life-long fans of the Boston Red Sox as well as avid motorcyclist, rescued this one of a kind motorcycle from Boston Harley Davidson.  “We are so very proud to own this piece of Red Sox History and are excited to be able to share this with all the Boston Red Sox Fan’s!” says Phil & Jen !  This bike has appeared and will continue to appear at Charity Events throughout New England !
